The work titled “Dad” is a story that shows how a creative and active life can suddenly change due to physical health issues. Although he now spends much of his time at home, he cherishes his memories and remains positive. His experience reminds us how fragile and precious life truly is.

Jorgen was born and raised in Amsterdam-West, where he grew up as an only child with his parents on the Anna van Burenstraat. After an intense period of surfing, he joined the Dutch military at the age of 21. There, he was trained as a hussar scout and stationed at Kamp Seedorf in Germany. During his time in the army, he participated in international reconnaissance competitions. At the same time, techno music was emerging in New York City, and artists such as The Fingers were playing at Roxy in Amsterdam, a place where he could always be found. While training at Boeselager with international units, ideas about connection and collaboration began to form. One of these ideas eventually led to the creation of the Amsterdam Dance Event, intended to foster collaboration between producers and audiences of dance music from around the world — creating connection through dance. After three years, he returned permanently to Amsterdam, where he began working as a photographer and artistic initiator. In recent years, he has been forced to spend much of his time at home due to physical complaints, which make it difficult for him to go outside. Through spirituality and Buddhism, he maintains a positive outlook on life.

The song What's Going On by Marvin Gaye serves as a symbolic element in this project. In my father’s vision, war is never the answer — human connection and unity must always come first.
